Roof Hatch Guardrail
Roof hatch guardrail · Updated 2026 system
Protection at the
point of access.
The Leading Edge Safety Roof Hatch Guardrail System surrounds the hatch opening with rails, handholds, a walkout area and a self-closing gate for the ladder-to-roof transition.
Every job. Every day. So You Come Home.

Guarded opening
Rails surround the hatch to help keep people away from the opening.
Walkout area
Step off the ladder before operating the access gate.
Self-closing gate
Returns to the closed position after passage.
New modular mounting design
Smaller components.
More manageable installation.
Mounting brackets and upright posts now install separately. The new design breaks the system into smaller, lighter components, making each piece easier to handle and position during installation.
- Separate brackets and posts let the crew position components individually.
- Included predrill template helps accurately locate mounting holes before installation.
- Updated instructions guide the crew through assembly and final inspection.

What changed
Brackets, posts and the included hole template.
The updated system assembles in stages. Use the current manual for your series and gate orientation through the completed-system inspection.
Included hole template

Locate the mounting holes at the hatch corners before drilling.
Separate mounting brackets

Series-specific brackets form the mounting base for the separate upright posts.
Separate upright posts

Posts seat on bracket tabs to help align the uprights before fastening.
Complete the guardrail: Then add rails, ladder grabs, walkout components and the self-closing gate. Follow the current manual for hardware, sequence, alignment and final inspection.
Configure your access
Start with the actual drip-edge dimensions.
30X, 36X and 48X identify nominal hatch-width series. Actual fit is based on the outside drip edge, hatch construction and exit direction. The following width ranges apply to same-side installations.
| Series | Nominal hatch width | Actual outside drip-edge width | Product information |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30X | 30 in. | 28 9/16–35 5/8 in. | 30X series |
| 36X | 36 in. | 34 3/4–41 3/4 in. | 36X series |
| 48X | 48 in. | 45 5/8–53 5/8 in. | 48X series |
Standard
Same-side drip-edge length:
33 25/32–62 in.
Base system length range.
XL add-on
Same-side drip-edge length:
Over 62–104 3/4 in.
Requires the XL extension kit.
XXL add-on
Same-side drip-edge length:
Over 104 3/4–132 in.
Requires the XXL extension kit.
90-degree installation: Uses a separate fit table and gate-kit selection. XL and XXL extensions do not apply to this layout. View the 90-degree fit table.
Before ordering: Identify thermally broken hatch construction, which requires different mounting brackets. Send photos and confirm dimensions with LES if a measurement falls between ranges or within the 30X/36X overlap.

Receiving and installation
Identified component packaging.
Component packages organize the mounting bracket set, adjustable access gate and assembly components. Match the packages to the current manual before starting installation.
For project assistance, send your hatch dimensions, photos, desired exit direction, project location and quantity. We can help identify the configuration and any required add-on components.

Use the updated assembly and installation manual for the modular 30X, 36X and 48X system. Earlier-system manuals and drawings are listed separately on the Downloads page.
Questions before you order
Get the right configuration for your hatch.
What measurements do you need?
Measure the outside drip-edge width and length. Include photos of the hatch, mounting area and access direction. The nominal hatch callout or inside clear opening alone does not establish fit.
Can the gate be installed on a different side?
The current manual provides same-side and 90-degree installation paths, with left-hand and right-hand gate assembly. The available layout depends on hatch dimensions, access direction and the applicable add-on kit.
Will this work with a thermally broken hatch?
Thermally broken hatches require different mounting brackets. Identify that construction when requesting a quote so the correct brackets can be specified.
What about replacement components or unusual dimensions?
Send the existing system information, dimensions and photos to our sales team. We can help identify the components needed and provide pricing. Custom or out-of-range applications require a configuration review.
Alternative mounting configuration
Ballasted roof hatch guardrail systems.
WBRH systems use weighted bases around the hatch. This is a separate product family from the updated hatch-mounted modular system. Contact LES to review the model, roof conditions, clearances and project requirements.
